Computer Cleaning and Maintenance

As part of the opening procedures in the morning when we are turning on the computers and checking the laptops in the morning please make sure that the computers are clean and ready to use for the patrons.   Make sure to log this into the IT help desk binder especially if the computers are sprayed with the canned air or the mouse, screen, and keyboard area are wiped off.  Also, make sure that we are logging in every call or e-mail  to the IT help desk.  The Flores binder is being revised.  Please remember to e-mail Virginia in the morning the status of the laptop check ins.

Printer @ Flores

The Flores staff printer is not working. We are awaiting an ink cartridge from supply to check it before we report it to IT again.

Gaming

Please make sure that unless the library is offering the After School Zone Gaming Time that all the children both at Stanaker and Flores are checking out a game controller with their own card.

The WiiU controller needs to be checked out at all times if in use.

Summer Reading Club Prizes

The Summer Reading Club is oficially over on August 1st, customers will no longer be able to log in their own books to receive prizes, but staff will still be able to do that for them.  Please go ahead and continue to give prizes to customers who have exceeded the deadline until we either run out of prizes or you are given further instructions from the Youth Programming Department/SF's e-mail.

Both Stanaker and Flores are out of Astros tickets.  I have asked Jennifer Schwartz for more if they are available.

Update 07/27/13
Miss Jackie shared her Astros tickets with Flores and Stanaker.  There should be about 10 tickets at each location in the grouping now.

As you may know the Circus tickets expire after this weekend.

Thank you,
Mercedes

Catalog not working well in Internet Explorer

Please use Google Chrome to access the catalog. It is not working well in Internet Explorer including not showing the hold button. Everything seems to work fine in Chrome.

Placing Holds through Sirsi

On page 55 of the Siris training manual information about placing holds through Sirsi can be located.  The catalog has been having some problems accepting holds. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1RGzAySya6cRmdZRlUtQkZrWUE/edit?usp=sharing
From the Central Blog 07/19/2013

Here's another temporary  glitch in new system that you may have run into..Customers are unable to place holds if there are any fines (even as low as 15 cents).  The best scenario is they can pay the fines and place their holds. A second choice is staff can place it for them using Workflows.
LW

Addendum: check to see if they have any items that are overdue. Symphony might be estimating the fines (which could be over $10) and blocking the account.

Print Queue and Jammed Print Card Help

How to see what's in the print queue

At the print release station:
  1. Control-Alt-. (period)
  2. login: library  password: freeprint
  3. gently hit enter
  4. a menu box will pop up - click on Administrator Print Document List
  5. pop up box asking for job name - gently click ok (nothing goes in the box)
  6. you should now be able to see what is in the print queue
  7. Quit out of the program and let the customer log back in using the correct job name

**Be careful to not let customers know the login/password. You are able to release jobs using this procedure (for free). The goal is to find their job name and make them release it themselves.

**At this time we are not able to move jobs to other print queues, nor are we able to reprint jobs that were lost, misprinted, jammed in the printer, etc.

To release a jammed print card from the vending machine
  1. Hold the top black button down
  2. Press the bottom black button three (3) times
  3. release both buttons
  4. This action resets the machine and should eject the card
  5. Check the value of the card in a print release station or copier (not the vending machine)

To login to print release station (if not autologged on -- defaulting to login screen)
  1. login: ccopyrel
  2. password: c01nc0p1ers   (yes, those are zeroes (0) for 'o' and ones(1) for 'i' )
